Timothy Sellati’s dreams involve endless supplies of eight-legged creatures bursting with infectious pathogens.

For the Trudeau Institute immunologist, visions of ticks with mutated genes are not the stuff of nightmares, but part of the big idea he is pursuing in the Adirondacks after recently leaving Albany Medical College.

As conceived, the Research Center on Lyme and Other Tick-borne Diseases at Trudeau would include a tickery — where the arachnids are bred with germs and genes to researchers’ specifications — and, more important, would bring together the nation’s best experts to answer questions about the illnesses that the bugs spread, which are on the rise in New York.
